Introducing Our Honorary Club Presidents at O'Connell’s GAC

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of four distinguished members as Honorary Club Presidents at O'Connell’s GAC.

Eugene McKenna, Austin Conlon, Jim Sheridan, and Hugh McGahan have each made significant contributions to our club, and we are proud to recognise their dedication and service.

Eugene McKenna

Eugene's legacy at O'Connell’s GAC is profound. As a former player, he brought passion and skill to the field. His commitment to the club extended beyond playing; Eugene was integral during the construction of our club rooms, ensuring that our facilities were built to support generations of athletes. His leadership as a senior team manager and his service as club secretary and on the committee have left an indelible mark on our club’s history. Eugene’s multifaceted contributions reflect his deep commitment to O'Connell’s GAC.

Austin Conlon

Austin has been a pillar of support for O'Connell’s GAC, a former player and committee member, Austin has played a key role in the development of our club rooms and facilities. His dedication to the maintenance and care of our field has been unparalleled, with countless hours spent sowing and fertilising to ensure the best playing conditions for our teams. Indeed the trees that are currently across the bottom of our main pitch to serve as a wind break were donated and planted by Austin. Austin’s work behind the scenes has been vital to our club’s success and growth, embodying the spirit of dedication and hard work.

Jim Sheridan

A former player and long-term supporter, Jim has been a steadfast presence at O'Connell’s GAC. His commitment to the club has been unwavering, attending games and events, and offering his support in any way possible. Jim’s enduring passion for O'Connells’s GAC and his consistent presence have made him a beloved figure within our community. His journey from player to dedicated supporter exemplifies the lifelong connection that many have with our club.

Hugh McGahan

Hugh’s contributions to O'Connell’s GAC are extensive and varied. Serving as a former chairman and secretary, Hugh has also managed and coached our underage teams, fostering the development of young players and ensuring the future of our club. Hugh has worked as club physio, groundsman, chef at our steak nights and everything else in between. Hugh also represented the Club with distinction in his role as Mid-Board Chairman. His leadership and organisational skills have been instrumental in steering the Club through many successful seasons. Hugh's commitment to youth development and his willingness to take on multiple roles within the club highlight his extraordinary dedication and versatility.

We are immensely proud to honor Eugene, Austin, Jim, and Hugh as our Honorary Club Presidents. Their tireless efforts and unwavering dedication have helped shape our Club into the thriving community it is today.
