This week’s match ball is proudly sponsored by Anthony Rooney and family, in loving memory of his brother, Sam Rooney. Pictured is Anthony presenting the match ball to senior player Mickey Kelly, Sam’s nephew.

Sam was a dedicated and committed Gael who wore the club colours with pride for many years, representing the club at both underage and senior level. A talented player, he was known for his determination, work rate and love of the game.

Off the field, Sam’s impact was just as significant. He was deeply passionate about coaching and gave countless hours to developing our underage teams, always encouraging, supporting and inspiring the next generation of players. His dedication and enthusiasm left a lasting impression on so many young Gaels within the club.

Sam will be fondly remembered as a loyal clubman, a great teammate and a true friend. His legacy lives on in the players he coached and the memories he created.

Senior Vice Captain Mark McKenna accepting the match ball sponsored by the Mckenna family in memory of Mark's Grand uncle James McKenna.
On this very special occasion of our first Senior League home game we remember James a person whom held every administration position in our club over the years.  Fondly remembered to many as the "Memory man" James was an encyclopedia of knowledge of all things Gaa and beyond.  Take your pick on Thursday nights in Mary Anns when he took the stage served as great entertainment to everyone there but was also a vital weekly fundraiser for the club.
James like so my others pushed the development of O'Connell Park to what we have today and only dreamed that one day we would be playing teams like 14 times County Champions Clan Na Gael on our home turf.

This weeks match ball sponsor is the Donnelly family, in loving memory of a much loved husband, daddy, granda, brother, uncle and friend, Paddy Donnelly RIP, on the weekend he would have celebrated his 80th birthday.

A Tullysaran Gael through and through, Paddy gave extraordinary service to our club over many years—as a former player, manager, secretary and committee member. He was also a passionate Scór competitor and organiser, always proud to promote our culture and community spirit.

A true gentleman, Paddy gave of himself so freely to both our club and the wider Tullysaran community. His presence, warmth and generosity is sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A plasterer by trade, Paddy played a hands-on role in shaping our club, lending his skills to help plaster the clubrooms in the early 1990s. He was also a gifted musician who entertained the community for many years, and a talented poet who regularly captured club and community life through his words.

It is especially fitting that the Donnelly family sponsor the match ball for our first football league game as a senior club, as Paddy’s final match in 2022 was also the opening game of the season—a poignant connection that reflects his lifelong dedication to Tullysaran.
